Am I blacklisted? How to check and clear your name
Last updated 2026-10-01
QuickEasyLoans is not a credit bureau. Scores and ranges differ between bureaus; your official report is the one from a registered credit bureau.
- South Africa has no single blacklist — 'blacklisted' means adverse listings on your credit report.
- Check for free with any registered credit bureau.
- Listings expire after set periods, and paid judgments must be removed.
How long listings stay
Under the credit regulations, information is kept for limited periods. For example:
- Enquiries: 2 years
- Slow payments / adverse classifications: 1–2 years
- Judgments: 5 years, or removed when paid and rescinded
- Administration orders: until rescinded, maximum 10 years
Clearing your name
Pay or arrange the overdue accounts, ask the creditor for a paid-up letter, and send it to the bureau. For judgments, apply for rescission once settled.
Can I get credit if I'm 'blacklisted'?
Possibly, from some lenders, at smaller amounts and higher rates. See our blacklisted loans page for the honest picture.
Does paying off debt remove the listing immediately?
The account status updates to paid, and some listings must be removed; others stay until their period ends.
