How to check your credit score for free
Last updated 2026-10-01
QuickEasyLoans is not a credit bureau. Scores and ranges differ between bureaus; your official report is the one from a registered credit bureau.
- By law you get one free credit report every 12 months from each registered credit bureau.
- Checking your own score does not lower it.
- Look for errors: wrong accounts, old judgments or accounts you don't recognise.
Step by step
- Pick a registered bureau: Choose a credit bureau registered with the NCR and use its official website or app.
- Verify your identity: Enter your ID number and answer security questions about your accounts.
- Download your report: Get your full report with score, accounts, enquiries and any judgments.
- Dispute errors: Lodge a free dispute with the bureau for anything incorrect. They must investigate within 20 business days.
What's on your credit report
- Personal details and addresses
- Every credit account and its payment history
- Enquiries made by lenders
- Defaults, judgments and administration orders
- Debt review flags
Soft vs hard enquiries
Checking your own score is a soft enquiry and doesn't affect it. When a lender assesses an application, that's a hard enquiry; many in a short period can lower your score.
Does checking my score lower it?
No. Checking your own report never affects your score.
Which bureau's score is the right one?
Each bureau calculates its own score from slightly different data, so numbers differ. Lenders may use any of them.
How often can I check?
One free full report per bureau every 12 months; many bureau apps also show a free score more often.
