Instant loans: what 'instant' really means
An 'instant loan' is an instant decision, not instant money without checks. The lender runs an automated credit and affordability check in minutes; if approved, the payout follows as soon as the bank transfer clears. By law every lender must still check that you can afford the loan, so no legitimate instant loan skips the assessment.
What lenders check
- Automated credit bureau score
- Affordability from bank statements
- Identity verification
Documents you'll need
- Green barcoded ID or smart ID card
- Latest 3 months' bank statements
- Latest payslip (if employed)
- Proof of address not older than 3 months
Watch out for
- Fake 'instant loan' pages on social media ask for an upfront fee — never pay one.
- Check the lender's NCR registration number (NCRCP...) on the NCR website.
- Compare total repayable, not just the monthly amount.
Is an instant loan the same as a payday loan?
Often yes. Most instant loans are short-term loans up to R8,000 repaid within 6 months.
Do instant loans check credit?
Yes. A registered lender must check your credit record and affordability.
Why was I declined instantly?
The automated check found your income, existing debt or credit record doesn't meet the lender's criteria. Ask which bureau they used and check your report.
