What a lender will look at

Red flags

It is illegal for anyone to keep your SASSA card, ID or PIN as security for a loan. Report this to the NCR and SASSA.

Safer options first

Ask about a stokvel or savings group, community advice offices, or speaking to the creditor directly to rearrange payments.

Can I get a loan with the R350 grant?

Registered lenders rarely count the SRD grant as income because it is temporary.

Is it legal for a lender to hold my SASSA card?

No. Report it to the National Credit Regulator.
