How to appeal a declined SASSA SRD grant
Last updated 2026-10-01
QuickEasyLoans is not SASSA and is not linked to government. We never ask for your SASSA PIN or OTP. Always use the official SASSA website or call centre (0800 60 10 11) for your own application.
- Appeals go to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA), not SASSA itself.
- Lodge each declined month separately within 90 days.
- Outcomes can take up to 90 days; approved appeals are back-paid.
Step by step
- Note the reason: Check your SRD status and write down the decline reason for each month.
- Go to the appeals site: Open the official DSD SRD appeals website (srd.dsd.gov.za).
- Verify yourself: Enter your ID number and cellphone number, then the OTP sent to your phone.
- Choose month and reason: Select the declined month and the reason you believe the decision is wrong.
- Submit and track: Submit, then return to the same site to check the outcome.
Common decline reasons and what they mean
- Alternative income source identified: money entering your bank account was counted as income. Appeal if it was a once-off transfer or not yours.
- Identity verification failed: your details didn't match Home Affairs. Check spelling and ID number.
- Existing SASSA grant: you already receive another grant.
- UIF or NSFAS registered: you appear on another payment database.
Tips for a stronger appeal
Appeal every declined month you believe is wrong. If a family member deposited money once, explain that it was not regular income. Keep your bank statements in case you are asked for proof.

The tribunal aims to finalise appeals within 90 days of lodging.
Can I appeal more than one month?
Yes, but each month must be appealed separately.

What if my appeal is dismissed?
You can approach the High Court for a review, but most people reapply or keep their application active for future months.
